What's really in the bottle
What we use
Sage Essence cleans Austin homes with six raw plant-based and mineral ingredients, combined in specific ratios for each surface and task. For sanitizing we use hypochlorous acid, the same antimicrobial your immune system makes. It leaves no residue and no fragrance, because there is no fragrance to begin with. Here is the line-by-line difference between conventional cleaning and the Sage Essence method.
| The job | Conventional cleaning | Sage Essence |
|---|---|---|
| Surfactant | Synthetic detergents, often petroleum-derived | Professional-grade plant-based castile soap (Sal Suds) |
| Disinfection | Quaternary ammonium ("quats"), chlorine bleach | Hypochlorous acid, the antimicrobial your immune system makes |
| Hard water & grime | Phosphoric acid, hydrochloric acid | Food-grade citric acid and sodium carbonate |
| Whitening & odor | Chlorine bleach, synthetic fragrance to mask | 3% hydrogen peroxide, breaks down to oxygen and water |
| Polish & shine | Silicone-based aerosols, ammonia | 91% isopropyl alcohol on microfiber and food-grade mineral oil for wood |
| Fragrance | Synthetic blends often containing phthalates | None. By design. |
| Vacuum filtration | Standard household-grade filters | HEPA, captures particles to 0.3 microns |
Studies in respected journals link routine exposure to common cleaning chemicals with asthma in adults and respiratory irritation in children, and the fumes linger in the air your pets breathe too. Sage Essence was built around a different answer.
